Elements of Stage 3
Implementation and Enforcement
This stage involves the implementation and tracking the progress of the reduction of nutrient pollution in the Danube River Basin. It will also include the enforcement of incentive programs. Incentive's programs are designed to motivate the countries to continue working together and moving toward a solution without having necessary outside enforcement.
Funding for the restoration of the river will mostly come from the EU, LIFE, the cohesion fund and the structural Funds which are known to fund environmental projects in the region. The EU has also suggested that member states allocate enough funding to meet the Water Framework Directives goal of "good water status" ("Issue paper on," 2007).
Stations should be placed along the river, a certain distance apart, to monitor the nutrient levels as a way to track progress.
